Chapel

Welcome and peace to you! 

It is a joy to be serving in ministry at St Benedict’s Episcopal Day School.  Wednesday morning Chapel is truly a highlight of our week here at St. B’s, not only for our children, but for me as well.  I am continually inspired by and in awe of the spiritual depth, insights, and diverse religious backgrounds of our children.

I have had the great privilege to lead Children’s Ministries at St. Benedict’s Episcopal Church since its inception in 2006 and to create St. Scholastica’s Children’s Chapel, our Sunday morning chapel, an engaging and vibrant worship space for children.  I was deeply honored when the Rev. Lang Lowrey called me to be Chaplain of the Day School and asked me to develop a program specifically for the diverse body of our school!
The students' chapel experience is a modified version of the Morning Prayer liturgy found in The Book of Common Prayer.  The service includes singing, a dramatic reading of the Gospel specifically designed to be understandable by children, and a short homily by one of our clergy.  Throughout the year we will use our time together in Chapel to observe the sacred days of various world religions as a way to celebrate our unity and oneness.

We have one overarching goal in Chapel:  to empower our children to become the people God created them to be.  Building on scripture, prayer, liturgy and Episcopal Church tradition, we seek to encourage and nurture our young people in their faith and life.
